In this post we explain how to measure the thickness of your new mattress quickly and easily
Customers sometimes ask us about the thickness of our mattresses and are a little confused about how it should be measured. From seam to seam? Where are the lowest and highest points? Might the mattress not have recovered its original shape yet? Let us clear things up.
The first thing to keep in mind when measuring your new mattress, whether it is memory foam or sprung, is time. Specifically, the time that has passed since you opened and unsealed the mattress so that it could lose the vacuum and recover its original shape. The ideal time for the mattress to fully recover its original shape is 24-48 hours.

Likewise, it is essential for the mattress to rest on a firm, rigid surface such as an upholstered base or the floor when you measure it. We always recommend using upholstered bases for all our mattresses, whether they are memory foam or pocket spring.
The mattress should not be measured from seam to seam, as the seam is a reinforcement that presses on the memory foam layer. The mattress has quilting on its top side that sits above the seam, and that is the point you should measure up to.
To take the measurement, rest the start of the tape measure on the base the mattress is sitting on and extend it to the top of the quilted cover as shown in the image.

If you need to, you can use any ruler or broom handle and place it (without pressing) on top of the quilting, from the centre of the mattress as a reference point to the edge of the mattress, so that it crosses the tape measure and gives you the measurement.
